Description
This fantastic antique pewter plate was made around 1749 – 1789. The reverse shows the maker; John Watts. It is impressed with the crowned rose and alongside this, the crowned x mark, meaning that the pewter is of a harder alloy and of good quality. A fantastic piece of history.
The plate itself shows signs of knife marks from the period and has been repaired over the years. This clearly just adds to the patena. Also, plates were expensive at the time and repairs were therefore not uncommon.
An excellent example of pewter ware from the period.
Dimensions: Approx. 30cm diameter.
