Description
This is a mid brown utilitarian side table most likely to have been manufactured in the 1940s under the UK governments Utility Furniture scheme (CC41 stamp) which ran from 1942-1952. It has a medium oak finish. The surface is in great condition considering the austere circumstances of manufacturing at the time and is made from wooden slats with pinned rounded half edges. The lower shelf has seen some quite old and very faithful wood fill repair and is barely noticeable.
It is quite unusual to find a table in its original condition and colour from this generation as most were repurposed, broken down or have been ‘gentrified’ in some form or other. As it is in such good condition and a piece with historic provenance, we have left it as is rather than modify it.
It is a fairly large and utilitarian piece that has definitely stood the test of time and would look great in any retro or period lounge.
Measurements: 67cm tall x 51cm depth and width – Weight likely 5-6kg
Many thanks for looking.
