Japanese Satsuma Vase – Probably 1910s or early 1920s – Excellent Condition!

Now this is an exceptional find here at the Boutique. This is the chance to have an exquisite piece of original Japanese “Satsuma” style ceramic.

We believe the item was made in Japan in the late 1910s or early 1920s for export to the British or American markets. The backstamp is a series of three handpainted Japanese symbols and with the “Made in Japan” stamp would put it at these dates. Please bear in mind we are not antique experts and merely research each item with the information we have to hand and our own experience.

The condition of the vase, considering its age, is exceptional. The colouring is rather muted for a Satsuma vase, however, the gilding and the handcolouring are very vibrant, even after 100 years. The beige coloured ceramic on the vase are the only parts where the ceramic has crazed slightly, though this is more indicative of its age and is hemmed in by other pieces so there is no significant blemish to the item. There are no chips or cracks of note and the condition is excellent overall.

The vase stands 22cm tall and 11cm in diameter.

All in all a great item of Japanese pottery and a stunning piece overall.
