Mid 20th Century (poss 1950s) Nickel Plated Cutlery Canteen – 14 pieces – Brown Leather Binding

This is a cutlery canteen caddy from the mid twentieth century – likely to be 1950s.

The silver of the nickel cutlery is in good condition with some signs of tarnishing and age related wear, though nothing significant of note. The early plastic handles have aged somewhat due to age rather than wear as the shrinkage of the plastic is uniform across each piece. They are brown in colour and slightly rough in texture, and we assume that the original look would have been a smooth buttery yellow – the eye however, is drawn to the fantastic detailing on the blades of the knives – pictured – and this detailing further shows signs of age rather than wear as they are crisp and clean.

The beauty of this set is the age and rarity of having nickel blades and early plastic handles.

The box is in acceptable condition, hence the competitive price. The leather is worn and patchy in places, though still retains its original patterning. The clasps are unfortunately missing, though the close of the lid is tight.

Despite its age related wear, this is a charming piece, and the detailing on the nickel blades is very intricate. This is definitely an item for a collector or for someone looking to update a set.
